UV durability and UV irradiation test

Test Method: The UVA-340 lamp, which faithfully reproduces solar radiation, and the UVB-313 lamp, which emits ultraviolet light with wavelengths shorter than those normally observed on Earth, were irradiated for 3,000 hours, after which the discoloration and pull-out strength of the grass fibers were evaluated.
(In accordance with the FIFA Quality Concept for Football Turf Handbook of Test Methods)
Test results: After 3,000 hours of irradiation, no significant changes were observed in appearance, hue, or physical properties.

Abrasion resistance test

Test Method: Using a Lisport abrasion tester, we reproduce the surface friction that occurs during normal use on artificial turf to estimate its durability against friction. One back-and-forth movement is counted as one rotation, and the impact on the artificial turf is observed after a total of 55,000 rotations.

Test results: Although the FIFA standard is 20,200 rotations, there were no significant tears in the pile even after 55,000 rotations.

To use with peace of mind.

To ensure peace of mind when using Memory Turf, we offer artificial turf with mold resistance and antibacterial functions. To suppress the growth of germs, it is effective not only for antibacterial purposes but also for deodorizing.
Furthermore, regarding the issue of contamination with carcinogenic substances that has been raised recently, we have conducted tests and have confirmed that Memory Turf does not contain any dangerous substances that could affect human health.

Antibacterial and mold resistant

Antibacterial test

Test Method

We will conduct a test based on "JIS 1902: Testing methods for antibacterial activity of textiles" using Staphylococcus aureus.

Test results

The antibacterial activity value of Staphylococcus aureus has exceeded the standard value. A high antibacterial activity value suppresses the growth of bacteria that cause unpleasant odors. In other words, it has been found to have antibacterial and deodorizing effects.
Mold resistance test

Test Method

After placing a baked sieve with a spore mixture in the center of artificial turf and culturing it for 4 weeks under high humidity at 28°C, the mold resistance of the artificial turf surface will be evaluated.

Test results

No mold growth was observed on either the pile or the base fabric of the artificial turf, either with the naked eye or under a microscope.

8 Heavy Metal Test

Test Method

Elution tests are performed using specified concentration solutions. The amount of eluted substance is measured using an ICP-OES (Inductively Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectrometer) or similar instrument. (Compliant with "European Standard EN 71 Part 3 Migration of specific elements")

Test results

Memory Turf did not contain heavy metals harmful to the human body, such as antimony (Sb), arsenic (As), barium (Ba), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), and selenium (Se), in heavy metal tests.
PFAS (Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances) Testing

Test Method

Artificial turf is melted, and solvent extraction is performed. Then, it is concentrated and diluted, and finally filtered and measured.

Test results

In the PFAS content test, Memory Turf did not detect any per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances such as PFOS (perfluorooctanesulfonic acid), PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid), PFHxS (perfluorohexanesulfonic acid), PFCAs (perfluorocarboxylic acids), PFOI (perfluorooctyl iodide), PFNA (perfluorononanoic acid), PFDA (perfluorodecanoic acid), and PFBS (perfluorobutanesulfonic acid).

We are also performing all other tests.

Memory Turf performs heat shielding index measurement tests, electrostatic tests, and flame retardant performance tests.

Heat Shielding Index Measurement Test

Test Method

Products containing heat-shielding materials and products without them will be exposed to light from an artificial solar illuminator for 30 minutes, and the temperature increase will be measured.

Test results

After 30 minutes of irradiation, products containing heat-shielding material reached approximately 62°C, while products without heat-shielding material reached approximately 72°C. This suggests an effect of heat shielding of about 10°C in temperature rise.

Static electricity test

Test Method

We charge the measurement device by friction due to rotation, measure the maximum charging potential and the half-life (charge decay time), and evaluate the charging performance value (U value) based on these two values.

Test results

The electrostatic performance evaluation value (U-value) was determined to be 1.2 or higher and less than 3.2 (Grade III) or 3.2 or higher and less than 5.2 (Grade II). Grade III is a benchmark for "having antistatic performance," and Grade II is a benchmark for "having relatively high antistatic performance." (Lower grades indicate higher suppression function.) In other words, both mean that static electricity is unlikely to occur.

Flame retardancy test

Test Method

Mount the test piece in the combustion testing chamber at a 45° angle and heat it for 30 seconds at a distance of 1 mm from the surface of the test piece. Then, measure the afterflame time and the length of burning.

Test results

It meets the flameproofing performance standards stipulated by the Fire Service Act, such as residual flame time and residual ember time, and is certified as a flameproof product by the Japan Flame Retardant Association (a public interest incorporated foundation).

Does the heat reflected from sunlight off windowpanes cause artificial turf to shrink?

Are you aware of the problem of artificial turf shrinking and turning brown?
We receive over 100 inquiries about this problem annually, including those involving products from other companies, and the number continues to increase year after year.

Under adverse conditions such as climate and reflected heat from windows with high heat-shielding and insulating properties, the surface of artificial turf can become extremely hot. This can cause the straight fibers of the artificial turf to shrink, exposing the crimped fibers on the surface and resulting in a brownish, streaky appearance.
When installing artificial turf, please consult with our staff in advance to prevent any problems.
